I was selecting manually before running Breevy.

And this could technically work, but you'd have to figure out a way to make it so that the selected text wouldn't get overwritten as you typed the abbreviation -- otherwise there's no text for Breevy to copy when you simulate a Ctrl+C with the %(Key Ctrl+C) macro. One way this might be done is to type the abbreviation in the LaunchPad (Ctrl+Space), and then have a %(Key Esc)%(Delay 200ms) at the beginning of your replacement text to hide the LaunchPad, but I think your solution is the best one.

Thank you - that was the hint I needed.

No problem!
Breevy is now portable!

Breevy 3.06 was released today.

Breevy is now portable and can be run from a USB flash drive.

When Breevy detects it is running on a flash drive, instead of saving your abbreviations and preferences to your computer, Breevy stores that data onto the flash drive it is running on. This allows you to take your abbreviations with you everywhere you go and use (as well as modify) them with Breevy on any Windows computer, without having to install Breevy on that computer. Just plug in your USB flash drive, run Breevy from it, and then you can type your abbreviations at any time in any app as usual, and make changes to them too.

To download the portable package of Breevy, just visit the download page. On that page you'll also find instructions on how to "install" Breevy onto your flash drive (it's really easy).

The regular, non-portable installer, as usual, can be downloaded from Breevy's main page.

A vey basic question about Breevy use/usefulness

Hi Matt,

In the future, we plan on adding a mini unobtrusive "pop-up" window that would display (if enabled in Preferences), next to the cursor, a list of abbreviations (and the corresponding replacement text of each) that start with the letters you just typed, acting as a quick-reference guide of sorts. For example, if you were to type 'ac', a list of all of your abbreviations starting with the letters 'ac' would be displayed, etc. This would definitely make learning the 13,500+ abbreviations from the included Medical Transcription abbreviation set much easier.

But until then, if you aren't interested in studying the included Medical Transcription set (which I can totally understand, the thing is indeed huge ), I would say that the best thing to do would be to just not use the Medical Transcription set and instead create your own abbreviations for the medical words, phrases, etc., that you often type on a daily basis. This would make remembering the correct abbreviation of the word/phrase you wanted Breevy to insert much, much easier, since you'll be the one who created the abbreviations in the first place.

Hope this helps!

Ability to Add HTML or RTF to Abbreviations

I think what J-Mac and the others mean is rendered HTML, like what would be shown in a browser, not actual HTML code, like what would be shown in a text editor. For example, an abbreviation with the replacement text of, say, "Bold with some italics", rather than a replacement text of "<b>Bold with some <i>italics</i></b>".

xgyle wrote:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8">

On a completely irrelevant note, I suggest that you not use charset Meta tag in your HTML. Why? Its a IE charset bug and its widely unpatched, even if you have applied all the recent upgrades. Every designer that I know of have all patched up computers and yet this IE7 and IE8 bug was never patched, even though it was fixed back in april or march. You can read more about it here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/arc … fixed.aspx

What happens is that IE creates two requests to get every css and javascript file you may have. And in that lookhead process it will fail a whole bunch of requests because the actually browser processes are trying to download the same file. So only one request would be served but two would be made. Its always a good practice to declare your charsets on server side.

Hi Zachery,

Breevy 3.03 was just released, which adds support for the clipboard output method I described earlier. This should fix the issue you were experiencing with tabs not working properly in webforms.

To enable the clipboard output method, what you can do is, after downloading and installing the new version of Breevy, open up Preferences, switch to the "Cool Stuff" tab, and then switch the Output method to Clipboard.

Let me know how it works!
